On Utilizing Art to Navigate Impending Loss
I spontaneously and urgently began painting (for the first time in my life and without any formal training or practice) what has become this series on 3/14/2022, the day my husband unexpectedly collapsed in the kitchen. As he lay resting in his easy chair, I took to canvas, paintbrush and acrylics to locate myself amidst the uncharted territory of ongoing (and often relentless!) anticipatory grief. "Art as GPS" documents this palliative care social worker's own sacred journey from a caregiver's perspective to cope, make sense of and find meaning in an ever-changing landscape of emotions with few landmarks, provisions, or guideposts.
Here are examples from the collection that was on display at the Infinity Room (Salem) during March of 2023.
